Researcher/Senior Researcher in Physical Oceanography
The Greenland Climate Research Centre at the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources invites applications from candidates with a background in physical oceanography for a 2-year Researcher/Senior Researcher position, with the possibility of extension.
The Greenland Climate Research Centre is responsible for several interdisciplinary long-term monitoring and research programmes focusing on physical and biological parameters in Greenland's fjords and adjacent marine areas. In addition to its research activities, the Centre develops and delivers educational programmes and provides research-based advice to the Greenlandic authorities.
The position is aimed at applicants with an internationally recognized research profile and expertise in marine environments and ecosystems, preferably within an Arctic and Greenlandic context. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of interdisciplinary research projects focusing on Greenlandic marine environments and the Centre's future research strategy. The candidate will join an international team of researchers conducting comprehensive research in marine ecology and physical oceanography to improve our understanding of ecosystem variability, climate change, and their societal impacts in the Arctic.
The position is offered for two years, with the possibility of extension.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Participate in the collection of research and monitoring data from Greenlandic fjords and adjacent marine areas.
- Contribute to the implementation and maintenance of the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources' oceanographic database.
- Analyse and report field data and provide research-based advice to governmental authorities.
- Disseminate and communicate research findings.
- Contribute to the development of new interdisciplinary research projects, both internally and with external partners.
- Produce high-quality scientific research at an international level.
- Participate in international scientific organisations and networks, such as ICES, WGOH, and NAFO.
Qualifications
Applicants should hold a PhD in physical oceanography or a closely related discipline and have documented experience in physical oceanographic research, preferably in Arctic environments.
Particular emphasis will be placed on:
- Demonstrated interdisciplinary research potential and a clear vision for the future of physical oceanography research in Greenland.
- Experience with the collection and analysis of oceanographic field data (e.g. CTD measurements and mooring observations).
- Experience analysing large datasets.
- Ability to apply, disseminate, and communicate research results to both scientific and non-scientific audiences.
- A strong international scientific publication record.
- Demonstrated ability to attract external research funding.
- Ability to contribute to the further development of the Greenland Climate Research Centre's internal and external collaboration
Salary and Employment Conditions
The appointment is for a fixed term of two years, with the possibility of extension. Salary and employment conditions, including travel expenses on appointment and termination, as well as relocation of household goods, will be in accordance with the applicable collective agreement between Naalakkersuisut (the Government of Greenland) and the relevant negotiating organisation.
Accommodation
Staff housing is not provided as part of the position. However, the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources will provide access to rental accommodation during the first year of employment.
