Join Our Landslide Monitoring Team in Greenland

We are looking for one to two Geoscience Specialists (AC Officer or Senior Consultant)

The Department of Geology is looking for two motivated colleagues to join our Landslide Monitoring Team.

About the position

Our Landslide Monitoring Team works to improve public safety by monitoring unstable mountain slopes and assessing hazards such as landslides and tsunami run-up. As part of a small, dedicated, and growing team, you will contribute directly to protecting Greenlandic communities through monitoring, research, fieldwork, and scientific advice.

The position offers a unique combination of operational monitoring, field investigations, data analysis, and collaboration with authorities, researchers, and local communities. Travel and fieldwork in remote parts of Greenland should be expected throughout the year.

Your responsibilities

As part of our team, you will contribute to a wide range of activities, including:

• Daily monitoring of active landslide areas using advanced monitoring systems.
• Preparing and publishing monthly situation assessments.
• Regional screening and mapping of potentially unstable mountain slopes.
• Contributing to the development and implementation of monitoring strategies and hazard and risk assessments in collaboration with authorities, local communities, and international partners.
• Maintaining and further developing the project website.
• Planning and carrying out field campaigns, including drone surveys, GNSS measurements, and seismic monitoring.
• Quality control, processing, analysis, management, and communication of field data.
• Providing scientific advice to decision-makers.
• Supporting public awareness activities and contributing to the development of an integrated national landslide risk management framework.
• Collaborating with research institutions to develop monitoring approaches tailored to Greenland's unique geological and environmental conditions.

Who are you?

You do not need to meet every requirement below we encourage you to apply if you believe you are a good match for most of them.

We are looking for someone who has:

• A relevant university degree in geology, geography, remote sensing, engineering, geophysics, or a related discipline.
• Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and/or programming.
• Experience or interest in natural hazards, hazard assessment, or risk management.
• Good communication skills in English. Knowledge of Greenlandic and/or Danish is considered an advantage.

Our department consists of 12 geoscience professionals and serves as the Government of Greenland's primary geoscientific adviser on mineral resources and geological hazards. Salary and employment conditions

Salary and employment conditions, including relocation and travel benefits where applicable, are determined according to the applicable collective agreement between the Government of Greenland and the relevant negotiating organisation.

The standard working week is 40 hours.

Housing

Please note that staff housing is not provided for this position.

Applicants who already occupy government staff housing through existing employment with the Government of Greenland may retain their housing rights in accordance with current regulations. Staff housing is linked to employment and must be vacated when employment ends.
